Indian Air Force AFCAT Selection Process

The AFCAT 02/2026 Recruitment follows a multi-stage selection process:

  • Stage 1 – AFCAT Written Examination: Online computer-based test of 2 hours, 100 objective-type questions (3 marks each, –1 for wrong answers). Subjects: General Awareness, English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning & Military Aptitude.
  • Stage 2 – AFSB Testing (Stage 1): Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test, Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT). Candidates not clearing Stage 1 are eliminated.
  • Stage 3 – AFSB Testing (Stage 2): Psychological Tests, Group Tasks, and Personal Interview conducted over 5 days at residential selection boards (Dehradun, Mysuru, Gandhinagar, or Varanasi).
  • Stage 4 – CPSS Test: Mandatory only for Flying Branch applicants. Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test assesses pilot aptitude.
  • Stage 5 – Medical Examination: Final medical fitness check for all selected candidates.

Special Entries:

  • NCC Special Entry (Flying Branch): No written exam required. Direct AFSB call for candidates with NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Air Wing).
  • GATE Score Entry (Ground Duty Technical): Valid GATE score in approved engineering disciplines replaces the AFCAT written exam.
  • Candidates eligible for multiple entries must register separately for each.

Indian Air Force AFCAT 02/2026 Education Qualification

Flying Branch (AFCAT & NCC Special Entry):

  • Passed 10+2 with minimum 50% marks each in Physics and Mathematics AND
  • Graduation (minimum 3-year degree) from a recognised university with at least 60% marks, OR
  • BE/B.Tech degree (4-year course) from a recognised university with minimum 60% marks, OR
  • Cleared Section A & B of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with minimum 60% marks

Ground Duty (Technical) – Aeronautical Engineering [Electronics & Mechanical]:

  • Minimum 60% marks in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level AND
  • Graduation/Post-Graduation degree in Engineering/Technology from a recognised university

Ground Duty (Non-Technical):

  • Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university with minimum 60% marks

For GATE Score Entry: Valid GATE score in applicable engineering disciplines is required as per official notification.
